Tie Dye 06.23.2024
I'm planning to make some matching tie dyes for a friend's family and did some color testing this week. I used Dharma Trading Co.'s fiber reactive procion dyes in baby pink, lavender, and grape. I've had these dyes for a while so they're pretty old and might not be reflective of what their colors are supposed to look like.
The first shirts I decided to dye were the toddler ones. I did one shirt with just baby pink and lavender and the second shirt with baby pink, lavender, and grape. I was expecting the baby pink and lavender to be much more pastel than they turned out. The lavender also came out much more blue than I was expecting as well. With toddler shirts (and any smaller piece) I try to keep the number of colors to a minimum because it could get muddy.
I also dyed some adult shirts which you can see below. The adulmt mediums I did with baby pink and lavender, the adult smalls with baby pink, lavender, and grape.
Because of the setup I use, I accumulate some dye in my tub. I do my best to reduce waste in my crafting processes and so I like to use this "muck" dye because you often get some fun colors that you wouldn't get otherwise. This time around, I knew I was going to get some really pretty purple because of the dyes I had chosen. I'm really happy with how they turned out. In fact, I think they're my favorites from this batch of tie dye.
